Empowering students in India between ages 6 & 10 so they can interactively learn English.

'Read Together' is an Edtech platform that integrates education with technology to provide a creative, unconventional and interactive form of learning. It consists of 70 chapters from the NCERT English syllabi of classes 1-5, which have been converted into an audio-visual format. Additionally, 'Read Together' also has a program through which we provide tablets to children who cannot access online learning. Both our initiatives serve to provide education to everyone, anywhere.

We want to solve real challenges

Economically weaker students are unable to purchase devices to study at home. Even if they did, they have unreliable internet. They also lack adult supervision and assistance to guide them.

The biggest challenge for underprivileged children right now!

28% of the children have been restricted from learning since the beginning of COVID-19 due to lack of strong wifi connection.

27% of the students don't have access to laptops or smartphones to attend online classes.

“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.”

— Margaret Fuller

Why are we doing this?

A primary research I conducted among government school teachers provided me with some thought provoking insights about how 'Read Together' can provide solutions to problems that children face with regards to learning English.

1

Lack of assistance and supervision

Children feel hesitant to pick up a different language to learn if there is no one (including parents) to guide them in the right direction.

2

Lack of incentive for parents

Parents don't encourage their children to learn English if they don't have adequate resources, help and aren't fluent themselves.

3

Non-engaging methods of learning

Textbooks filled with text in a language that the children don't easily comprehend daunts them ,provokes rote learning and does not capture their attention or rouse excitement.

What this means?

Children are denied the extra opportunities open to those who know English.

What People Are Saying

This is a wonderful initiative and from my years of working with children, I know that reading is often a stumbling block to academic progress. These audio stories along with the visuals, will definitely help emerging readers and I'm hoping will spark an interest in exploring the world of stories and poems. A great first step forward for children who will comprehend the auditory input better than the written word.”

— Rekha Krishnan, Principal Vasant Valley School

“As a parent of a 3rd grader I can highly recommend the ‘Read together’ program for kids. It is a fun, engaging and an interesting way for the kids to comprehend a new language which is an uphill task for most parents. Sometimes I find it difficult to gather the correct collection of words to explain an action or a scenario to my child. The read together program with its audio and pictorial sync takes care of all that and more. The use of the program has definitely made my daughter more confident and comfortable in reading and expressing her thoughts. Thank you Arshya Gaur and team Read Together.

— Dipika Gupta, Parent of a third grader

“This brilliant initiative by Arshya takes the wonderful tradition of reading together to another level where children can learn how to read on their own along with having so much fun. The colourful videos, the playfulness of the characters, upbeat music are such a delight.”

— Dr. Shelja Sen, Therapist, Founder of adolescent mental health institute of ‘Children First’
